The Department of Computer Science strives to equip future leaders with the skills necessary to succeed in both private industry and academia. This is done by providing high quality instruction combined with research opportunities in computer science, software engineering, and related disciplines. Computer Science takes a wide approach to the study of the principles that cover theory and application. The field focuses on data, data transformation, and algorithms. Software engineering is the application of the creation, design, development, and maintenance of software.
Admission requirements for both computer science and software engineering are specified based on the entry status of potential students: freshmen, transfer students, technical degree transfer students, ECU transfer students, major changes or second degree students. Potential students should refer to the departmental website for full descriptions of each entry status category and the associated requirements for admission. Admission to the university does not guarantee admission to the computer science or software engineering degree program.
