The mission of the Department of Occupational Therapy is to provide a high-quality educational experience for those individuals who are committed to enriching the lives of people through the profession of occupational therapy. The program will provide a variety of educational experiences that will: 1) develop an understanding of the power of meaningful and relevant occupational engagement as a means of enhancing participation in life, 2) foster an understanding of the need to balance the use of technical skills and theoretically-based knowledge with clients while being respectful of unique sociocultural contexts, 3) enhance the development of clinical reasoning skills supporting the use of evidence-based practice, and 4) foster the development of life-long learners who have the ability to successfully occupy roles in traditional and emerging practice arenas and to be leaders within the field of occupational therapy.
