Purpose

Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college at ECU, offering 25 undergraduate majors and even more minors. Harriot College is a community of scholars dedicated to sharing with our students the education, research, creativity, and workforce development opportunities afforded by the liberal arts and sciences. We are united in our shared purposes, which include to impact our world and create solutions to help our environment, natural resources, and sustainability; understand issues and influence policies surrounding social justice and diversity; navigate the globe to find common ground through culture and communication; and explore, research, and discover how to change the face of technology and medicine. 

Harriot College provides general education courses for all students in the humanities; the natural sciences and mathematics; and the social sciences. College courses introduce students to traditions of learning and inquiry, present information essential for performing societal and professional roles, and challenge students to examine the values which guide the organization and application of human knowledge.

Harriot College is multidisciplinary by nature, and interdisciplinary by design.
