Minimum degree requirement is 132 s.h. of credit as follows:

1. General education requirements including those listed below - 40 s.h.


(For information about courses that carry general education credit see General Education Program .)

Note:


* A grade of C (2.0) or higher must be earned in this course.

2. Common core - 63 s.h.


(Students must earn a grade of C (2.0) or better in common core courses.)

4. Acceptance into a concentration is by portfolio review.


Portfolio review is required for acceptance into a concentration. Entrance is competitive and space may be limited. Students not accepted into their preferred program or area of concentration should be prepared to seek alternative areas of concentration. Students should speak with faculty in their desired concentration to receive detailed instructions regarding the portfolio review process and requirements.

Before applying to a concentration, students will successfully complete the initial course(s) listed below:


      Animation/Interactive Design - ART 2070  and/or ART 2470  

Ceramics - ART 2105  and ART 2115  

Cinematic Arts and Media Production - ART 2205  and ART 2206  (with a minimum 2.6 GPA in both courses)

Graphic Design - ART 2200  and ART 2210  (with a minimum 2.6 GPA in both courses)

Illustration - ART 2230  (with a minimum 2.6 GPA in course and in any concentration courses taken)

Metal Design - ART 2300  

Painting - ART 2560  and ART 2561 ; or ART 3561  

Photography - ART 2220  and ART 2225  (with a minimum 2.6 GPA in both courses)

Printmaking - ART 2010 , ART 2600 , ART 2610 , and ART 3600  

Sculpture - ART 2705  

     Textile Design - ART 2303  


 

5. Senior show requirement


An approved senior show is a requirement for graduation.

6. Computer literacy requirement


Art education majors must demonstrate computer literacy before admittance to the upper division of teacher education. This requirement can be met by verification of competency by experience or by taking a computer course.

7. Certification requirement


Certification additionally requires demonstrated teaching competence and recommendations from the certifying institution.
