The Behavior Specialist Certificate program provides educators and other professionals with knowledge and skills necessary to work with individuals who are at risk in schools and other environments because of emotional, behavioral, or social challenges. The overall objective of the program is to prepare school personnel and other professionals to provide best practice, research-based supports to individuals, with or without disabilities. Specifically, candidates who successfully complete the certificate program will demonstrate and apply thorough knowledge of characteristics of individuals with emotional, behavioral, and social challenges; implement multi-tiered positive behavior interventions and supports, including individualized strategies across environments; and develop collaborative support plans with stakeholders, including teachers, families, and community service providers.

Applicants seeking admission must be graduate students in a degree or certificate program. Admission is based on completion of the ECU certificate application or the add-a-certificate form if in a degree program and approval by the program coordinator.
