The Multidisciplinary Studies, BA offers a structured concentration in religious studies. Students fulfilling the degree requirements are awarded a Multidisciplinary Studies, BA.

The religious studies structured concentration is a nonsectarian and interdisciplinary program designed to provide students with an understanding of religion as historical and cultural phenomena. Courses explore religion in its various dimensions – aesthetic, anthropological, ethical, historical, literary, philosophical, political, psychological, and sociological.

A maximum of 6 s.h. may be used to satisfy general education requirements and requirements for the religious studies structured concentration. Study abroad programs having prior approval of the program director will be accepted for a maximum of 6 s.h. toward the structured concentration. Additional courses beyond those listed below will be accepted if the courses significantly further the student’s understanding of religion and if the courses have prior approval of the program director. The Multidisciplinary Studies, BA (religious studies structured concentration) requires 120 s.h. as follows:

1. General education requirements including those listed below - 40 s.h.

Note: This structured concentration does not require specific general education courses.

2. Demonstrated foreign language proficiency through level 2004 - 12 s.h.

3. Religious studies structured concentration core - 30 s.h.

A minimum of 24 s.h. in section III and IV must be above 2999.

a. Research and seminar courses (6 s.h.)

b. Approved courses in the religious studies structured concentration (24 s.h.)

Required course - 3 s.h.

Elective courses - 21 s.h.

4. Minor or approved structured electives - 18 s.h.

A minimum of 24 s.h. in sections III and IV must be above 2999.
