P: GEOL 1550 or equivalent; or consent of the instructor.

An in-depth examination of the structure and formation of ocean basins, the role of oceans in the hydrological cycle, the physical properties of seawater, atmospheric and ocean circulation, waves and tides. Emphasis is placed on key scientific studies, research methods, data analysis and quantitative problem solving.
