The East Carolina University College of Allied Health Sciences, established in 1967-68, was created in response to the growing need for allied health professional and health care services in eastern North Carolina and the state.

The mission of the College of Allied Health Sciences is to improve the quality of health through leadership, excellence, and innovation in the delivery of progressive baccalaureate, master’s, doctoral, and continuing education programs, providing professional and clinical services and conducting basic, clinical and applied research.

The College of Allied Health Sciences (part of the Division of Health Sciences) is comprised of eight departments: Addictions and Rehabilitation Studies (DARS), Biostatistics (BIOS), Clinical Laboratory Science (CLSC), Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSDI), Health Services and Information Management (HSIM), Occupational Therapy (OCCT), Physical Therapy (PTHE), and Physician Assistant Studies (PADP). The college offers 16 bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees, 6 minors, and 8 graduate certificates.

Admission

Admission to the university does not guarantee admission to the College of Allied Health Sciences. Students applying for admission to the professional programs of this school must have completed the application process as specified by the departments prior to the date set by the respective departments. Inquiries should be directed to the chairperson of the individual departments, College of Allied Health Sciences.

Curricula

The College of Allied Health Sciences offers BS degree programs in clinical laboratory science, health services management, rehabilitation services, and speech and hearing sciences; minors in alcohol and drug studies, clinical microbiology, clinical chemistry and hematology, hematology and immunohematology (blood bank), clinical laboratory science generalist, and speech and hearing sciences; MS programs in rehabilitation and career counseling, occupational therapy, communication sciences and disorders, substance abuse and clinical counseling, health informatics and information management, and physician assistant studies; a DPT in physical therapy; a PhD in communication sciences and disorders, an AuD in audiology, a PhD in communication sciences and disorders, and a PhD in rehabilitation counseling and administration (See graduate catalog for graduate degrees.)
