Education in the Health Care Professions Certificate


The 15 s.h. graduate certificate in education in the healthcare professions is open to students with baccalaureate or graduate degrees who teach in medical, dental or other healthcare-related disciplines at the university, college, and community college levels. Students may currently be teaching in these areas, however, the certificate is also geared for students whose future career goals include teaching in healthcare-related fields.  The focus of the certificate program is on teaching, including educational philosophy, the development of instructional strategies, evaluation and student assessment.  

Admission requirements are as follows:


  • Complete the Graduate School online application with paid fee;
  • Submit official transcripts for all colleges/universities where degrees were earned;
  • Have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited academic institution with a minimum overall undergraduate grade point average of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale.  The degree should be related to the area in which the applicant teaches;
  • Submit a Statement of Purpose/Intent that describes  a) the applicant’s relevant educational background  and work experience; b) short-and long-term goals; and c) specific  interests  in the graduate Certificate in Education in the Healthcare Professions program (500 words, double spaced, typewritten); and
  • Submit two letters of reference (professional or academic references preferred). 

Electives - 6 s.h.


 (Electives are to be selected in consultation with the certificate coordinator.)

Portfolio requirement:


In addition to course requirements, all students must complete a culminating portfolio within one semester of coursework completion or in the student’s final semester of coursework.
