Addictions Prevention and Treatment Studies Certificate

The Addictions Prevention and Treatment Studies Certificate provides students with the practical skills and basic techniques needed to provide services to individuals with addictions. This specialized area of counseling requires specific knowledge of theory and applied techniques in addition to general counseling knowledge and skills. The certificate is open to students enrolled in graduate programs as well as applicants holding a masters or baccalaureate degree. These courses meet the academic requirement for the North Carolina Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS) credential and 180 of the 270 hours required for the North Carolina Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) credential.

Retention Standards

Good academic standing in accordance with the ECU Graduate School guidelines:

Must maintain a 3.0 GPA in all required courses for the certificate to graduate.

Students not maintaining the criteria above may be placed on academic probation in accordance with the Graduate School policies.

In addition, the program has specific regulations:

No course may be repeated to earn the certificate; and
Receiving a grade of F in any required certificate course is an automatic dismissal.

Students not maintaining the criteria will be dismissed from the program in accordance with departmental policies.
