Global Understanding Certificate

The global understanding certificate is designed to help students develop an understanding and an appreciation of the peoples, issues and ideas within the global community. Students have an opportunity to take courses with an international content, study a foreign language at the introductory level, and learn about people in other countries through both Internet contact and actual study in an international setting. A minimum cumulate 2.5 GPA is required for admission. The student must maintain a 2.5 average in the certificate courses to receive the global understanding certificate.
The certificate requires a minimum of 15 s.h. as follows:

1. Core - 9 s.h.
- ANTH 1050 - Global Understanding
- Six semester hours of the same foreign language (1001 and 1002) are required. To view ECU foreign language courses click here .
Note: Students may receive credit either through successful completion of courses with C (2.0) or better or a language placement exam. The foreign language requirement may be waived for international students whose native language is not English, in which case six additional s.h. of approved electives are required.
2. Elective courses - 6 s.h.
Choose 2 courses from different disciplines (different course prefixes) from the following list:
Approved academic study abroad program or internship requirement
The study abroad program or internship must be for at least one summer session. International students may substitute an equivalent period of study at ECU.
