Program Coordinator: Cal Christian (3401 Bate Building; 252-737-1053; christianj@ecu.edu)

The Accounting, BSBA is intended for students who aspire to enter the accounting profession in the private and public sector (e.g., governmental, internal audit, and managerial accounting positions). It is not intended to prepare students for professional certification as a certified public accountant. However, the BSBA does provide a strong foundation for pursuing professional certification. If professional certification as a certified public accountant is desired, then students will need to pursue the MSA degree program after completing the BSBA. Students pursuing the Accounting, BSBA must earn a minimum grade of C (2.0) in accounting courses to satisfy any upper-level accounting course prerequisites. Also, to graduate, students must earn a minimum grade of C (2.0) and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 in all accounting courses (24 s.h.).

Minimum degree requirement is 120 s.h. of credit as follows:

II. Cognates - 3 s.h.

(MATH 2228 or MATH 2283 count toward the general education elective requirement for this degree. Semester hours earned for one of these courses is not included in the 3 s.h. cognate requirement.)

III. Business core - 36 s.h.

Senior business exam requirement:

Seniors must successfully complete the Senior Business Exam (SBE) in their last semester or summer term before graduation from the BSBA program. The SBE is administered near the end of each semester and summer term. Failure to successfully complete the SBE will result in the student being delayed from graduating in the BSBA program as this competency exam is a program requirement.

IV. Concentration - 24 s.h.

V. Leadership and professional development - 9 s.h.

VI. General electives to complete requirements for graduation.
