Religious Studies Concentration, Multidisciplinary Studies, BA

The Multidisciplinary Studies, BA offers a concentration in religious studies. Students fulfilling the degree requirements are awarded a Multidisciplinary Studies, BA. 

Religious studies is a nonsectarian and interdisciplinary program in the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences designed to provide students with an understanding of religion as historical and cultural phenomena. Courses explore religion in its various dimensions – aesthetic, anthropological, ethical, historical, literary, philosophical, political, psychological, and sociological.

A maximum of 6 s.h. may be used to satisfy general education requirements and requirements for the religious studies concentration. Study abroad programs having prior approval of the program director will be accepted for a maximum of 6 s.h. toward the concentration. Additional courses beyond those listed below will be accepted if the courses significantly further the student’s understanding of religion and if the courses have prior approval of the program director. Interested students should contact the program director for advising.

The Multidisciplinary Studies, BA (religious studies concentration) requires 120 s.h. as follows:

1. General education requirements including those listed below - 40 s.h.

Note: This concentration does not require specific general education courses. 

2. Demonstrated foreign language proficiency through level 2004 - 12 s.h.

3. Core - 30 s.h.


A minimum of 24 s.h. in section 3 and 4 must be above 2999.

b. Approved courses in the religious studies concentration (24 s.h.)


Elective courses - 21 s.h.


4. Minor or approved electives - 18 s.h.


A minimum of 24 s.h. in sections 3 and 4 must be above 2999.

5. Electives to complete requirements for graduation.
