The Forensic Science for Crime Labs Minor is interdisciplinary in nature and focuses on the management of criminal evidence, application of scientific methods, and the analytical skills and techniques used in the analysis and interpretation of physical evidence. The minor is a natural complement to students pursuing degrees in biology, chemistry, and/or biochemistry. The Forensic Science for Crime Labs Minor is intended for students interested in careers in crime laboratories. The department has additional programming for students interested in crime scene technician/investigator careers.
To be admitted to the minor students must complete CRIM 1000 with a grade of C (2.0) or higher and have a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher. The prerequisites for declaring this minor are General Chemistry I and II (CHEM 1150, CHEM 1151, CHEM 1160, and CHEM 1161); Organic Chemistry I and II (CHEM 2750, CHEM 2753, CHEM 2760, 2763); Principles of Biology I and II (BIOL 1100, 1101, 1200, 1201); and Introduction to Biological Anthropology (ANTH 2015, 2016) or Introduction to Biological Anthropology (BIOL 2015, 2016), with a grade of a C (2.0) or higher. Students must maintain an overall 2.5 GPA throughout the program and earn a C (2.0) or higher in all minor courses.
