HDFS 8004 - Research Ethics and Grant Writing in Health and Human Sciences 3
RP: Admitted to a PhD/EDD program or consent of instructor. Identifies philosophical, moral, political, legal, and social issues associated with scientific basic and applied research in behavioral health and human sciences and how to attend to ethical issues while developing and writing grant proposals. Explores relationship between moral, legal, professional, social, and institutional responsibilities of working scientists. Develops critical skills for understanding and evaluating arguments, claims, and policies pertaining to moral, political, legal, and social aspects of research, as well as how to write competitive grant proposals and engage in responsible grant management. Areas include scientific misconduct, conflict of interest, responsible conduct of research and grant management practices, protection of human research participants, identification of funding mechanisms, grant writing, and others.
