The Department of Physiology provides a collaborative environment where faculty and students pursue questions of joint interest in cardiovascular and pulmonary physiology, bioenergetics, and neuroscience. The Department’s research programs represent a unique integration of molecular and cell biology with organ level, whole animal and clinical studies; and projects are routinely conducted in concert with investigators from other departments both inside and outside of East Carolina University.

The Department participates in the Biomedical Sciences, PhD  program offered by the BSOM Office of Research and Graduate Studies.
