The Department of Human Development and Family Science offers two MS degrees: human development and family science and marriage and family therapy; one MAEd degree: birth through kindergarten education; and a PhD in medical family therapy. The MAEd program is offered online; applicants to the program must hold a North Carolina teaching license.
Course work and training prepares students for professional practice, research, and administrative roles in teaching, as well as in agencies and organizations that provide services and support to children and families. Applicants must meet the admissions requirements of the Graduate School. Completion of an undergraduate degree in child development, birth through kindergarten, family studies, family and consumer sciences, the behavioral or social sciences or closely related area from an accredited institution is required for admission. Applicants may be required to take additional courses as part of the degree requirements in order to make up deficiencies or meet certification requirements. Research and clinical experiences are available through the Nancy W. Darden Child Development Center and the Family Therapy Clinic.
