The Center for Sustainability (CfS) is a research organization within the framework of the College of Engineering and Technology. The Center was originally established as a Center for Sustainable Tourism in the mid 1990’s, and relocated to East Carolina University in the fall of 2007. In the fall of 2013, the Center expanded it role to include natural resources and the built environment. Today, the Center is focused on research and outreach within North Carolina, but also has applications throughout the world. The CfS has adopted a very broad definition of “sustainability,” including analysis and modeling of both natural and built environments. This definition includes design, analysis, and maintenance of electromechanical systems that are part of the built environment.
