The College of Allied Health Sciences, established in 1967-1968, was created in response to the growing need for allied health professional and health care services in eastern North Carolina and the state.
The mission of the College of Allied Health Sciences is to prepare students to assume service-leadership roles in the health professions as practitioners and administrators; provide quality clinical services to the community; and advance, disseminate, and apply research in clinical practice management, health, and the rehabilitation sciences. The College strives to create an environment that fosters evidence-based and innovative thinking to best serve the healthcare needs of eastern North Carolina and beyond.
The College is part of the Division of Academic Affairs and is comprised of eight departments: Addictions and Rehabilitation Studies (ADRE), Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS), Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSDI), Health Services and Information Management (HSIM), Nutrition Science (NUTR), Occupational Therapy (OCCT), Physical Therapy (PTHE), and Physician Assistant Studies (PADP).
The College offers master of science (MS) programs in clinical counseling , rehabilitation counseling , communication sciences and disorders , health informatics and information management , nutrition , and physician assistant ; a master of science in occupational therapy (MSOT); an doctor of occupational therapy (OTD); a doctor of physical therapy (DPT); doctor of philosophy (PhD) programs in counselor preparation and research , and in rehabilitation sciences ; a doctor of audiology (AuD); and seven post-baccalaureate certificate programs.
