Military and Civilian Trauma Studies Certificate

The Military and Civilian Trauma Studies Certificate prepares counselors or related professionals to provide appropriate and effective counseling services for both civilian and veteran/military populations exposed to trauma. This certificate is open to those who possess a clinical graduate degree in counseling or related field or students currently enrolled in a graduate counseling or related field degree program.

The certificate requires 12 s.h. as follows:

Retention Standards


Good academic standing in accordance with the ECU Graduate School guidelines is required.

  • Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA in all required courses for the certificate to graduate.

Students not maintaining the criteria above may be placed on academic probation in accordance with Graduate School policies.

​In addition, the program has specific regulations:

  • No course may be repeated to earn the certificate; and
  • Receiving a grade of F in any required certificate course is an automatic dismissal.

Students not maintaining the criteria will be dismissed from the program in accordance with departmental policies.
