The School Counseling Certificate prepares counseling professionals for a position as a school counselor at the elementary, middle, or high school level. The certificate is appropriate for counseling professionals who hold a master’s degree in a different counseling specialization from a CACREP-accredited program and are seeking licensure in North Carolina as a school counselor.
School counselors play an integral role in supporting the academic, personal, social, emotional, and postsecondary development of all students. This certificate is intended to increase awareness of the roles and responsibilities of school counselors in accordance with the ASCA National Model and to adequately prepare counselors to demonstrate culturally responsive practices, delivering a comprehensive school counseling program that is equitable for all students.
Students are to complete required courses and clinical experiences (Internship I/Internship II). Internships require both university and field supervision of counseling experience including direct service provision at their secured site.
The certificate requires 12 s.h. as follows:

Licensure/Certification Requirements in North Carolina
The curriculum for all ECU Certificates, Degrees, and other Graduate Programs have been designed to meet the licensure/certification requirements in North Carolina and prepare students to sit for licensure/certification exams in North Carolina. The various licensure boards in each state are responsible for setting requirements for licensure/certification in their state. Other states have their own requirements, and you’ll want to make sure your program meets criteria in your home state (or state where you intend to work) before you apply. |
