The Sport and Coaching Leadership Certificate is designed to prepare future leaders with the skills, knowledge, and expertise in sport psychology, athlete well-being, team dynamics, and administration to serve athletes. The certificate courses are offered both on-campus and online.
This certificate is open to students who are: (1) pursuing their graduate degree or (2) as a stand-alone option for those that hold an undergrad degree and relevant sport experience. Current ECU students should complete the graduate school form to add the certificate to their degree plan. New or returning prospective students should apply through the graduate school admissions portal.
The certificate requires 12 s.h. as follows:

* Either SMGT 6001 or SMGT 6106 can be used to satisfy one of the two required elective courses if not taken to satisfy the required core requirement. Admission requirements:
Acceptance into the certificate program is dependent upon, but not limited to, one of the following: - a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.7
- five years of progressive professional experience and an undergraduate degree or a graduate degree
- enrollment in a graduate degree program at any UNC System institution
