The History, BA/History, MA accelerated program is initiated while undergraduates are completing the bachelor’s degree in history and is intended for outstanding history undergraduates. Eligible students accepted into the program may count up to 12 semester hours of approved graduate coursework towards completion of both the undergraduate and graduate degrees.

ECU undergraduate history students with a 3.0 minimum cumulative GPA and a 3.5 minimum GPA in history courses may apply for admission to the accelerated program after completing a minimum of 75 eligible undergraduate semester hours. Students admitted to the accelerated program may begin taking graduate level courses while an undergraduate student. Permission to participate in graduate courses does not constitute admission into the graduate program. Students should apply for undergraduate graduation one semester prior to completing the undergraduate degree requirements and should apply for formal admission to the graduate program by the advertised application deadline for the desired term of admission. Students accepted into the accelerated program must earn a grade of B or above in all graduate coursework to continue in the accelerated program. Students who earn a C in any graduate course may still count that course toward the bachelor’s degree, but they will no longer be eligible to participate in the accelerated program or take graduate courses. Students may reapply for admission to the master’s program.
