Forensic Anthropology Certificate

The course of study for the Forensic Anthropology Certificate provides a basic understanding of skeletal biology and human osteology, procedures for the search and recovery of human remains, methods of individual identification from the human skeleton, time since death estimation, and manner of death. The student is also provided with knowledge of forensic anthropology for those interested in careers in applied, non-academic anthropology.

A minimum cumulate 2.5 GPA is required for admission. The student must maintain a 2.5 average in the certificate courses to receive the forensic anthropology certificate.

The certificate requires 16 s.h. as follows:

1. Core - 13 s.h.

ANTH 3077 - Archaeological Methods
ANTH 3026 - Forensic Anthropology
ANTH 4400 - Human Skeletal Analysis
ANTH 4401 - Human Skeletal Analysis Laboratory
CRIM 3007 - Criminal Investigation
Substitute core courses may be approved by the Department of Anthropology.

2. Electives - 3 s.h.

(Choose one from the following)

BIOL 2130 - Survey of Human Physiology and Anatomy
CRIM 3501 - Criminal Procedure
PSYC 3375 - Abnormal Psychology
SOCI 2220 - Sociology of Deviant Behavior
Other electives may be approved by the Department of Anthropology.
