Exceptions to these requirements may be made at the discretion of the department chair (or designee). Admittance to the honors program requires a student to meet the aforementioned requirements and to obtain approval of a faculty mentor from the mathematics undergraduate director. A student in the honors program must enroll in MATH 3550  and MATH 4550 . Each honors student will carry out an extensive program of carefully supervised reading and/or research on a topic of mutual interest to both the student and mentor.
